Marcos Almeida is a qualified lawyer and a STEP Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP), holding a STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) Diploma. He began his career as a trial lawyer in Brazil, representing one of the country's largest insurance companies in complex litigation matters, and continued his career in New Zealand after graduating with a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Business. His legal expertise spans multiple jurisdictions, with a strong focus on international asset protection. Specialising in the Cook Islands' offshore trust and estate industry for over seven years, Marcos has developed a deep understanding of the jurisdiction's unique legal framework and its leading role in global asset protection. Over the course of his career, he has built an extensive international network of estate planning and asset protection attorneys, CPAs, family offices, banks, and investment managers in multiple jurisdictions such as Switzerland, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Panama, and others. Prior to founding Atlas, Marcos served as Head of Legal and Client Services for one of the largest Cook Islands trust companies and as a director of two licensed trust companies in New Zealand. In that capacity, he reformulated and elevated the level of trustee services offered—introducing innovative practices, delivering measurable results, and reshaping how the industry approaches and markets its services.
